ZONE 5 – SOUTH KENSINGTON + GERF
Drayton Arms Theatre
It has been a year since the death of her sister and Lillian has been taking painting classes as a coping mechanism; covering the walls of her home in cheerful paintings. As she and her weak willed husband, Percy, prepare to host a dinner for her painting teacher, Percy struggles for his concerns to be truly heard. Her teacher, Walker, arrives with unexpected charm and unexpected opinions of her art. Lillian reveals that she hasn't been honest with either of them, and that there is more to this meeting than what she had lead on... Dinner is served as Walker fights Lillian for artistic dominance, Percy begs Lillian for the loving relationship they used to have, all the while Lillian herself struggles to suppress a grim truth covered by a year's worth of lies.
The play discusses themes of mental health, ownership of art, and the intention of art versus its impact.
